Sì, ognuno al suo posto.

Una delle tante lotte per cui l’umanità combatte da anni è l’eguaglianza. Ma non sarà questo il solito articolo in cui con tante belle frasi si cerca di ammettere per l’ennesima volta che la donna debba avere gli stessi diritti dell’uomo. Tante sono state le parole spese a proposito, ma al giorno d’oggi oltre a quelle parole, oltre a quei pensieri e quelle giornate in cui in 24 ore si pubblicizza questo problema, esiste altro? Ci sono persone che cercano di fare qualcosa di concreto? Di mettere in pratica le loro idee su quest’idea di uguaglianza?

Partendo da una prospettiva globale, esistono tantissimi movimenti femministi, uno dei neo-nati è quello della celebre ex-streghetta che ha saputo sfruttare la propria fama e la propria sete di giustizia creando il movimento #HeForShe, di cui lei stessa è ambasciatrice. Parliamo proprio di Emma Watson, che oltre ad essere attrice ha deciso di cimentarsi al cospetto di ogni Donna spiegando il valore della parola “Femminismo”.

Se invece guardassimo una realtà più vicina, una realtà che non tocchi superstar internazionali, cosa possiamo trovare?

Ebbene, mentre scorrevo la Home di Facebook qualche giorno fa ho notato un video di un cartone animato in cui veniva rappresentata Cinderella (in italiano Cenerentola) in versione maschile, sotto il nome di Cinderfella (per chi non lo sapesse, “fella” è un sostantivo inglese che sta per “ragazzo” o “tipo”) e come lui, viene cambiato il sesso a tutti gli altri personaggi. Si tratta di una trasposizione riassuntiva della storia originale di questo ragazzo ormai orfano che tra le ceneri del suo castello obbediva agli irruenti ordini del suo patrigno e dei suoi fratellastri poco aggraziati ed esteticamente sgradevoli, gelosi della bellezza del povero Cinderfella ormai schiavo nella sua stessa casa. La storia va avanti come tutti noi la conosciamo e mentre il video sta per chiudersi con la classica formula “…And they lived happily ever after” (e vissero per sempre felici e contenti) la storia si interrompe per dare spazio a queste due giovani donne in cui dicono:

<<Non leggeremmo mai una storia del genere a nostro figlio. Perché leggerla a nostra figlia, allora?>>

Il video prosegue mostrando la presentazione del loro libro, intitolato Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls, rivolto ad un pubblico esteso, non solo ai grandi ma anche e soprattutto ai più piccoli. Un modo per dare spazio a personalità di donne che nella loro storia, nella loro carriera, nella loro vita hanno combattuto per dare un vero valore alla parola uguaglianza. 100 storie di donne guerriere che hanno cambiato radicalmente le prospettive, che hanno lasciato un segno marcato nel percorso storico di questa battaglia infinita femminista. Il video è in inglese e qui vi è una traduzione di quello che spiegano queste due ragazze, Elena Favilli e Francesca Cavallo, autrici del libro.

“Salve, sono Elena Favilli e io Francesca Cavallo. Recentemente mi sono resa conto di non aver letto neanche una sola storia durante la mia crescita che mostri una ragazza prendere il suo destino in mano e farne qualcosa di grande senza l’aiuto di un principe, un fratello o un topolino. Dal momento in cui le ragazze iniziano a frequentare la scuola elementare, presentano sin da piccole meno fiducia in sé stesse rispetto ai ragazzi. Perché? Questo è qualcosa da cui partire per toccare la sensibilità globale, partendo proprio dai più piccoli. Impartendo loro la voglia di crescere, di ambire a qualcosa di grande tramite il connubio di realtà sotto forma di favola. Quindi, è giusto far crescere i propri bambini con la fantasia e i colori magici dei cartoni Disney o di altri in generale, perché ogni bambino ha bisogno di esplorare i bellissimi meandri del mondo dell’immaginazione, ma sarebbe una gran cosa mostrar loro la vera esistenza di Eroine, di storie realmente accadute che possano per loro essere un grande esempio di vita. Magari al posto di leggere di come Cenerentola abbia viaggiato su una carrozza che prima era una zucca per raggiungere il suo principe, o della piccola Ariel che voleva a tutti i costi due gambe umane per raggiungere il principe Erik, sarebbe grandioso parlar loro di come Mae Carol Jemison sia stata la prima donna afroamericana a volare nello spazio, di come Julia Child sia diventata cuoca e autrice di uno dei ricettari più conosciuti di sempre “Mastering The Art of French Cooking”, del perché la pittrice messicana Frida Kahlo sia stata la prima donna latinoamericana ritratta su un francobollo degli Stati Uniti, di Sandra Day O’Connor e Ruth Bader Ginsburg che sono state le prime due donne a rivestire il ruolo di giudice della Corte Suprema degli Stati Uniti e tante altre storie affascinanti che mostrano come una persona, al di là del fatto che sia uomo o donna se ambisce a qualcosa di straordinario lo possa raggiungere con le proprie mani senza il bisogno di una fata turchina che sventoli una bacchetta o di topi parlanti inesistenti. La forza esiste, l’ambizione è reale, il coraggio e il sudore sono gli ingredienti adatti per la vita di ogni persona esistente oltrepassando una volta per tutte il confine del pregiudizio, dell’inesistenza della differenza sessuale, razziale o religiosa, perché, forse, non è aspettando un principe azzurro, o una strega che ti trasformi a rendere possibile il raggiungimento di un obiettivo ma più probabilmente sarà sperando fermamente e credendo nel presente che un sogno realtà, diverrà.

Yes, everyone in his or her place.

One of the many fights for which humanity has fought for years is equality. Nevertheless, this will not be the usual article in which, with many beautiful words, I try to admit that women should have the same rights as men. People have spent so many words on this topic. However, nowadays is there anything else besides those words, those thoughts and the woman day when in 24 hours people advertise this problem? Are there people trying to do something concrete? To put their ideas into practice on this idea of equality?

Starting from a global perspective, there are many feminist movements, one of the new-borns is that of the famous ex-witch who has been able to exploit her fame and her thirst for justice by creating the #HeForShe movement, of which she herself is the ambassador. We are talking about Emma Watson, who besides being an actress has decided to defend and fight for every Woman explaining the value of the word “Feminism”.

If we look at a closer reality, a reality that does not touch international superstars, what can we find?

Well, while I was surfing on Facebook a few days ago, I noticed a video of a cartoon featuring a male version of Cinderella, under the name of Cinderfella and like him, sex is changed to all other characters. It is a transposing summary of the original story of this orphan boy who, in the ashes of his castle, obeyed the irrational orders of his stepfather and his ungrateful and aesthetically unpleasant stepbrothers, jealous of the beauty of the poor Cinderfella, now slave in his own home. The story goes on as we all know it and while the video is about to end with the classic formula “… and they lived happily ever after” the story stops in order to give the opportunity to two women to explain their project:

<<We wouldn’t read this to our sons. Why read it to our daughters?>>

The video continues by showing the presentation of their book, entitled Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls, aimed at a wide readership, not only for the adults but also and especially for the today’s young people. A way to give space to women’s personalities who in their history, in their career, in their lives fought to give a true value to the word “equality”. 100 stories of warrior women who radically changed the perspectives, which left a mark on the historical path of this infinite feminist battle. Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo, authors of the book, say:

Recently I realized that not a single story I read growing up featured a girl who took her destiny in her hands and made something on her own without the help of a prince, a brother, or a mouse. By the time girls reach elementary school they already have less confidence than boys. Why is that? It is my belief that this is something from which to start touching global sensitivity, beginning with the younger ones. By giving them the urge to grow, to aspire to something great through the blend of reality in the form of fairy tale. Hence, it is okay growing children with fantasy and the magical colours of Disney cartoons or others in general, because every child needs to explore the beautiful meanders of the world of imagination, but it would be a great thing to show them the existence of Heroines, of stories that really happened that could be a great example of life for them. Maybe instead of reading how Cinderella had travelled on a coach that was first a pumpkin to get to her prince, or about little Ariel who wanted at all costs two human legs to reach Prince Erik, it would be great to explain them about how Mae Carol Jemison was the first African-American woman to fly in space, how Julia Child became cook and author of one of the best-known recipes called “Mastering The Art of French Cooking”, why Mexican painter Frida Kahlo was the first Latin American woman portrayed on a US stamp, how Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg were the first two women to be the judge of the US Supreme Court and many other fascinating stories that show up how a person, beyond the fact that he is a man or a woman, if he or she wishes something extraordinary to reach with his own hands without the need of a fairy turquoise waving a wand or non-existent talking mice. Strength exists, ambition is real, courage and sweat are the ingredients suitable for the life of any existing person, by overstepping once and for all the boundary of prejudice, the inexistence of sexual, racial or religious difference, because, perhaps, it is not by waiting for a Prince Charming, or a witch that turns you into something to make possible to reach a goal because no matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.
